How Jesus
Mastered His Life
PATRICIA KRISTIE traces the Master’s
significant decisions of his early years.
The adult Jesus is
described as
being a perfectly
unified
personality
If we are bold enough to undertake the mastery of our
own selfhood, it would be practical to examine the
precedent set by the only human in history that we can
confidently say mastered himself—and then ask how he
did it.
The Urantia Book advises us that we will better
understand the teachings of Jesus by his life and not his
lessons to the twelve apostles or his sermons to the
multitudes 140:8.19 (1581.6).
The record tells us that by the age of 17 he had made
great progress in the organization of his mind 127:2.12
(1398.4) and by the age of 24 he had made tremendous
progress in the mastery of his human mind 128:5.6
(1414.4). He accomplished this organization of intellect
by the force of his own decisions and with only the aid of
his Thought Adjuster—that very advantage each one of
us can equally lay claim to.
We are also advised that "a man grows from the material
toward the spiritual by the strength, power and
persistency of his own decisions" 117:3.6 (1282.1) and that
"the success of the adjuster in the enterprise of piloting
you through the mortal life depends not so much on the
theories of your beliefs, as upon your decisions,
determination, and steadfast faith" 110:3.2 (1205.6).
The Value of Balance
The adult Jesus is described as being a perfectly unified
personality 100:7.18 (1103.6). We’re told the unique
feature of his personality was not so much its perfection
as its symmetry, its exquisite and balanced unification
100:7.1 (1101.5). It is that balance, made possible by each
of the smallest of his key life decisions—made in willing
